Get yo skates on, people and head to King’s Cross this summer where you’ll find a pop-up roller skating ring for eight whole weeks. The rink pays homage to the days of roller discos but with a 2013 twist – this is Roller Disco 2.0. if you will.

Skate Kings Cross

The Skate Kings Cross pop-up celebrates the history of the area, known for its clubs back in the day – including the weekly Bagley’s Roller Disco at Canvas. The new skating rink is on approximately the same site.

What’s more you’ll also find DJs (see schedge below), boozy milkshakes and a weekly-changing menu from Disco Bistro – think wings, burgers, sundaes and hard milkshakes – as well as guest-chef takeovers from the likes of Le Blow faves Gizzi Erskine, Lucky Chip and Yum Bun. Talk about MEALS ON WHEELS.

There’s room for 100 skaters with additional space for 200 onlookers. Speaking about the design of the new disco, architect Tarek Malin said:

We’ve used raw, heavy materials, in keeping with the industrial heritage of the area, but we’ve also used gold chainmail and custom light installations to reference the recent past, when King’s Cross was a mecca for clubbers, ravers and yes, even skaters.

We think it sounds WHEELY good and can’t wait to get our Roller Girl on. See you (on the floor of) the rink!
