Gemma Cairney presents Project F

Blow Out (and about) // What the ‘eff is Project F?

You might’ve spotted our We Want Your job featurette with young Gemma Cairney a few weeks back. Now, there’s one part of her job we don’t want, and that’s having to trek 16, 000 feet up a bloody great big mountain (Mount Kenya, in fact) in one week’s time for Trekstock.
Nuts to that.
We simply don’t do hiking boots or over exerting ourselves, even if it is for an excellent charidee. In fact, Amy and I very nearly keeled over and DIED after ascending a really-very-small incline whilst exiting Bestival in the wee hours of this morning, so we’d be shit at it, anyway.

We’re MUCH better at fundraising. Particularly the fun part. And this is where Ms Cairney thinks similarly to us, which is why she came up with Project F – an evening of music, dancing and drinking in aid of Trekstock. Cos fundraising is hard. Fun making is easier. We reckon the ‘F’ part may also refer to how fucking hard fundraising is. We can say that, obvioulsy. Charity types can only think it. But we bet they definitely DO think it. We blame the millions of status updates you see on Facebook, all ‘sponsor me!’ this and ‘I’m doing a crappy fun run!’ that.

Anyway, it’s all happening at The Africa Centre, a brilliant old skool building (they used to have Soul II Soul parties there back in the day) in the heart of Covent Garden. Here’s what Gemma had to say:

I’m treating this project like a wedding so I’ve become a bit obsessed with making it AMAZING. It’s like my mish-mashed equivalent to Elton John’s Tiara Ball. I’ve asked all the people who I love to come and play and can’t believe they all said yes! As a result, the line up is wicked.

Every penny goes to Trekstock – and if you arrive early you’ll be greeted with a free beer reception. We’re decking out the hall with African bunting and the raffle prizes make me salivate – including a £100 voucher to eat at The Hawksmoor, and a pair of bespoke Terry de Havilland shoes…

So, if you’re around this Friday night and near Covent Garden, come! It’s gonna be one special send off,  just four days before I fly out to Kenya…

Project F takes place this Friday and Gemma’s pals Annie Mac (who was BRILLIANT at Bestival), Toddla T and Lauren Laverne will all be cutting it up on the ones and twos, with live performances from Afrikan Boy and Fair Ohs. There’s even a tombola, ferchrissakes.

Get your tickets here and join Gemma Cairney and friends for an evening of music, dancing, drinking and raffling with all proceeds going to Trekstock, supporting young people with cancer.

Project F: 16th September 8pm to 2am at The Africa Centre, 38 King Street, Covent Garden WC2E 8IT
Tickets £15, available here.
