Grace Coddington

Fashpiration of the week // Grace Coddington: always in Vogue. Literally.

As Creative Director at US Vogue since the late 80s, Grace reminds us again of her creative genius, career tenacity and serious hair with the release of her memoirs.

Grace Coddington

Why is she the bomb? See just a few reasons below…

1. Former model Grace, 71, mostly attends the office without make-up wearing practical black. This woman is beyond fashion.

2. She loves cats, to the point of hiring an animal psychic when her pet moggy was ill. Reassuringly domestic values with a fashion kook edge.

3. Grace champions her own signature look in her work – you gotta blow your own trumpet right? Redheads are always on trend with muses including Lily Cole, Maggie Rizer and Karen Elsen.

4. The yin to Anna’s yang. Grace respects her first-in-command Editor, Wintour, but makes her vision clear. Particularly since 2009’s The September Issue, their creative difference and fascinating symbiotic relationship has been in the fashion spotlight.

How to  channel Grace? Don’t slavishly follow trends. Coddington is all about beautiful, thought provoking imagery and timeless visual storytelling.

If this translates to wearing comfortable lace-up shoes and lots of black all the better. Yves Saint Laurent and Balenciaga are notable labels and statement hair is a bonus.

Find a look and stick with it. Dressing with the courage of conviction is always in fashion.

Grace: A Memoir by Grace Coddington (Chatto & Windus, £25), out now.
