Fashspiration of the week // The best dressed cartoons. That’s all, folks!

Iconic, ageless with a signature style that’s much imitated but never bettered. Who am I talking about? Minnie Mouse, of course.

Inspired by Minnie Mouse

This forthcoming London Fashion Week, designers including Michael van der Ham, Richard Nicoll, Giles Deacon and Terry De Havilland are showcasing Minnie inspired pieces within their collections, all in aid of the British Fashion Council.

Granted, Minnie’s GIANT bow takes some beating but the Disney darling isn’t the only cartoon minx fit for the catwalk. Let’s take a look at some other illustrated characters that typically dress better than us on a daily basis…

Smurfette

Smurfette

The sexiest (and only) female smurf in the village driving all the boy smurfs to distraction with her flirty shift dresses and Kate Middleton blow dry.

Signature look: short hemlines and white heels without looking the least bit trashy.

Miss Piggy

Miss Piggy

Not strictly a cartoon, but she IS animated, right? Miss Piggy would be running the world based on ego alone if people just took her a little more seriously. Often poses wearing cabaret feather boas or ‘I am a pigging legend’ Shirley Bassey sequin dresses. Fabulous.

Signature look: Anything camp, showy or ultra-fashion. Nikki Minaj’s spirit animal.

If you were a fan of My So Called Life, obsessed with Marc Jacobs in the 90’s, watched films like Reality Bites and dreamt you were married to Evan Dando then Daria is your fashion BFF.

Signature look: Ironic specs, preppy skirts and ankle boots. Don’t think you’re original kids, Daria OWNS that shiz.

Jessica Rabbit

Jessica Rabbit

Grade A siren. The anthesis of Daria. Jessica treads illustrative creative license for constantly looking like she’s falling out of her outfit whilst revealing nothing. Competing with the glamour of Valentino, err Chris De Burgh and Special K for ownership of the red dress thing.

Signature look: Smokin’ hawt. Matching red hair. Long gloves make a token modest concession.

Rainbow Brite

Rainbow Brite

OK, OK colour blocking is soooo spring summer ’11 BUT trust me. Designers like Meadham Kirchoff, Sonia Rykiel and Jean-Charles de Castelbajac return to primary splicing again and again. Rainbow Brite is your girl.

Signature look: Like all the colours you’ve ever seen topped with stars, Michelin-like padding and trippy snow boots.

Catwoman

Catwoman cartoon

This superhero villain gets a special mention as not only are all things Batman having A Moment but all-over-leather is SOOO big this A/W – and Catwoman bravely does it best.

Naturally I am talking about comic book Catwoman here, not Halle Berry circa 2004 wearing kick flare jack-ups and a double stomach belt.

Signature look: Slink out the shadows with a dangerously hot (in all senses of the word) skin tight leather. I think the word is Meow.

That’s all, folks!
