Heidi Gosman launched luxury swimwear label Heidi Klein with her friend and business partner Penny Klein back in 2002, after trying (and failing) to shop for a holiday wardrobe outside of the usual summer season.
Since then, Heidi Klein has gone from strength to strength and is now one of the world’s top travel wear brands. Stocking everything from bikinis to one-pieces, kaftans to sun hats; it’s the one-stop shop for the stylish jet-setter – hellz, even Cara Delevingne was spotted wearing the Abaco Beach HK bikini bottoms (and *ahem* no top) while holidaying in Mexico last month.
Le Blow interviewed Heidi Klein co-founder Heidi Gosman to talk business, beaches ‘n’ bikinis…
What did you want to be when you were little/did you have a ‘plan B’ career-wise?
I always wanted to be a designer as I loved creating art. I worked in market research for many years before launching our first boutique – that was the Plan B career!
What do you now know that you wish you knew in the forumulative years of your career?
Always believe in yourself, but don’ take yourself too seriously.
You’re a seasoned traveller – what are your top tips for successful suitacse packing?
Pack light and smart. Roll up your small items and cover-ups in to an oversized hat in your case to prevent it from creasing. Pack one pair of fabulous sandals to wear with everything and a couple of mix and match bikinis for versatility. I also carry a large oversized canvas tote from plane to beach. And I take Sisley lipbalm and St Barths Roucou Oil everwhere, great for hair and skin. Keep it easy and chic.
Your recommnedations for a cheap yet chic travel destination?
Go off season to a desirable destination, sometimes off season is better than its peak. And do your online research for some good deals.
If you HAD to choose: Bikini or one-piece (and why)?
One-piece. Because it’s chic, provides a slimming effect to the female silhouette and flatters every body shape.
And finally, what’s your ultimate desert island item – the one thing you can’t live without?
Apart from fresh water… my camera.
