Laura Welsh Here for you

What’s big in our box // Gorgon City – Here For You ft. Laura Welsh + interview

We’ve only just managed to get Gorgon City’s blaaady catchy Ready For Your Love out of our heads – and just in time for their new single Here For You (out 16th June) featuring the bold and beautiful vocal talents of newcomer, Laura Welsh.

She’s already worked with music stalwarts Dev Hynes, Emile Haynie and Robin Hannibal of Rhye on her previous tracks Undiscovered, Cold Front and Unravel, and has signed to Polydor Records for her forthcoming debut album, which is expected to be released later this year.

Last week, she released a beautiful stripped-back version  of Here For You (above), which we think we might prefer to the original.

We caught up with the talented singer to talk here, there, festivals and hurrrrrrrr…

What’s your first musical memory?
Listening to my mom singing Patsy Cline songs in the kitchen when I was really young.

2013 was a great year for you (we saw you support London Grammar *waves*), so what’s in store for 2014?
My album is out in the autumn and I’ll be out touring as much as possible. I have also co-written and feature on the new Gorgon City single Here For You which is happening now.

Festival season is fast approaching. Which ones will you be attending and/or performing at?
I just did a couple shows at Great Escape and Live At Leeds and will be playing Dot To Dot in a couple of weeks. There are a few more to be announced. I’m also looking to do a couple of things with Gorgon City over the summer.

Who’s your ultimate style icon?
I think Francoise Hardy is incredible.  Her style is really effortless and chic.

How would you decsribe your current fashion vibe?
I wear a lot of classic cut clothes that have a feminine but at the same time boyish feel. I like tailored jackets and shirts teamed up with converse or brogues. I’ve recently bought a few vintage mens wear pieces that I’ve customised as well.

Your hair is awesome. Where do you get it cut and/or any styling tips please?
Thank you. I get it cut by Anna Cofone. She’s amazing.  Fudge salt spray is really good for styling, I use that quite a lot.

Tickets are now on sale for her headline show at The Courtyard in Hoxton, July 16th. Tickets available here.
