Haven’t you heard? Cycling is the new bunting, it’s so hot right now.
With the Olympics coming up we are soon going to have images of buff toned athletic Olympians shoved in our faces making us feel guilty about having a second breakfast. My answer is cycling, mainly because I’m too lazy to go the gym so I just do my exercise in my commuting time. If you are put off joining me in the saddle because you think it is style suicide I’ll have you know that it’s not just about MAMILs (Middle Aged Men In Lycra) or fleece-wearing hippies.
This London Fashion Week saw bikes make their first ever catwalk debut in the PPQ show. Models in embellished leggings wheeled bikes that are part of the limited edition collaboration with Rule Bikes. On sale next month from £1,500 PPQ RULE Supreme Style Bikes are less expensive than many hand bags and pay for themselves in saved Oyster card fares and gym memberships. But get on your bike, as only 100 of these limited edition designs are available.
If a PPQ Rule bike is a little beyond your budget, Raleigh have collaborated with the designers at Red or Dead to create a collection of ladies hybrids and helmets. Any fashion conscious cyclist will tell you this season in the cycle lane is all about being seen with matching accessories.
Here’s a few of my favourite bike pieces:
Painted Cycles Tote, £68, Anthropologie
Alice Nicol Handkerchief, £20, Push Cycles
F Comme Bronze Penny Farthing Pendant £35, Boticca
Bicycle Print Shirt, £35, ASOS
See? Cycling’s so chic right now.
