London Fashion Week // What music were they walking to?

I have to admit, despite working for a fashion company, surrounded by rails of clothes, air kisses and mood boards of ’90s era Kate Moss, my actual interest in fashion is relatively minimal.

That interest is further diminished when it comes to fashion week and I’d have to agree that unless you’re tripping off your tits on acid, FW’s a bit of a downer. But because I’m a person of few interests, pursuits and talents (and spend too much time on Hype Machine), I’m always curious about the music chosen for the catwalk. When it’s not Stevie Nicks AGAIN. So here’s my picks of the best – or most ubiquitous – songs from this year’s London Fashion Week. In case you’re interested.

Topshop Unique / House of Holland

Azealia Banks – 212

Apparently the most played song at LFW this season. A blessing from Karl Lagerfeld clearly equates to a blessing from the Fashion World At Large. Either that, or designers enjoy the word ‘cunt’ as much as I do.

Burberry

Rae Morris – Walls

This is what you imagine fashion week to be like – all breathtaking and atmospheric and taking on some almost other-worldy vibe. OK so Burberry appeals to my inner optimist. Marina and The Diamonds and Joni Mitchell also got an airing at the theatrics that was this spectacular parade but when this Rae Morris track blasted out at that oversized greenhouse I swear my heart swelled I got all teary eyed. Cos I’m a shallow cry-baby, ok?

Fashion East

LCD Soundsystem – Dance Yrself Clean

Quite timely considering the band’s recent split up but let’s face it, the fashion dahlings have always loved a bit of LCD Soundsystem. I reckon it’s cos LCD sounds a bit like LSD and there’s some sort of  druggy-related LOLs there. Anyway, they’re pretty fun I guess.

Tory Burch/DAKS

Desire – Under Your Spell

I know everyone shit themselves over Drive, I still don’t get the appeal but I cannot fault that sexy soundtrack. Even so, in an industry where you’re supposedly setting trends and being all forward thinking, it seems a bit late (and lazy) to be going crazy for this now. Like, shouldn’t they be all up on some Ides of March shit by now?

Jean Pierre Braganza

M.I.A. – Bad Girls

Because this song makes everyone feel badass and nothing screams rebel like 28-inch waisted models marching down the catwalk to M.I.A. Tear it up ladies!

Fred Butler

Charli XCX – I’ll Never Know

Gothy, poppy, electro. Butler had this girl performing an original cut at his show. Now shove that up your second rate speaker system and smoke it, fashion world.
