Alexander Wang S/S’12 // Would they wear it in Wigan?

Does anyone remember Kick Start, an ’80s TV show on The Beeb where contestants had to drive their bikes over a variety of obstacles, like stairs, cars and what-not? Well, the first half of Alexander Wang’s S/S’12 show made me fondly recall this series. I can’t think why…

Now, call me a sartorial Sherlock, but there was a definite biker theme, from the layered laser cut mesh fabric, to cropped motorcross jackets and leather seperates through to the chevron patterns adorning lightweight tops in clashing colours:

The models all clearly felt the NEED FOR SPEED as they didn’t even have time to dry their hair before zooming onto the runway – some of the girls, however,  did manage to grab Rab C Nesbitt’s old string vest on the way out and fashion it into a head piece in order to conceal their damp locks:

Having said all that, it’s a surprisingly wearable collection when broken down – the strappy, pointy stilettos nodded to the ’90s in a fresh new way; the parachute ensembles with manipulated botanical prints and super sexy body-con lasered leather mini dresses all very much needing a place in our collective wardrobes, like, NOW.

We like a designer who has a clear vision and sticks with it; someone who doesn’t give too much of a shit. And what with Wang (HA! Sorry, we can’t ever say that without guffawing. Sorry, sorry…) opening new stores across Asia and Europe next year, he’s certainly on the fast track (heh) to world domination. We’re also pretty sure his muse for the SS/’12 collection was this guy:
