Regular readers will know I love me a slogan tee, and even dabbled in creating my own last summer [see here and here]. I wasn’t sure if the trend for getting it ON your chest would – could! – carry on after sticking around for a while now, but Versace has amped things up for this summer and I am V into it.
In pretty pastel hues (pink, blue and green) and embroidered vintage font, this design looks like it could be straight from Versace’s epic catwalk shows in the early nineties and there’s a reason for that: it’s part of a tribute collection honouring the memory of the late, great founder Gianni, who was shot and killed in 1997, on the steps of his Miami Beach mansion as he returned from a morning walk.
Donatella Versace’s tribute show at Milan Fashion Week last September resurrected key leopard and baroque prints from the archives, nodding to early nineties through the styling and colour palette. Original supermodels from Gianni’s infamous autumn/winter 1991 show – Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, Cindy Crawford, Helena Christensen and Carla Bruni – walked on the runway once more.
But of all the pieces, it’s the pretty pastel embroidered cotton T-shirt that’s caught the fash pack’s collective eye – and mine too, although even if I ~had~ £280 to spare, I’m not sure I could justify spending that much on a tee… I’ll wait and see what Zara has to offer in a few weeks (sorry but not sorry).
