We’ve got a suggestion for ya. Why not spend Sunday sipping on champagne in decadent, intimate surroundings while being titillated – literally – cabaret style in Covent Garden?
Scarfes Bar, at the Rosewood London (which is looking particularly festive right now), is coming to the end of its series of enchanting cabaret evenings held every other Sunday.
Accurately described by host-with-the-most Dusty Limits (above), as “an eccentric house party in the middle of London” this is cabaret brought bang-up-to-date for 2014; an indulgent mix of music, dance, acrobatics, singing and close-up magic by world-renowned performers. Set in the decadent drawing room style Scarfes Bar; all low lighting yet high-octane, bedecked with displays of glass-domed butterflies and draped in velvet.
The evening is thoroughly immersive, in that the cast mingle freely (and drink) among the guests – and if you’re lucky enough to be positioned on the sofa by the roaring fire, it won’t just be the card tricks that come close-up, if you knoworramean…
Like a heady mix of Crazy Horse meets Chicago meets Amy Winehouse meets old school Hollywood, during the evening you will be treated to a spectacle of jazzy songs (as well as jazz hands), burlesque, boobs, fun, frolics – oh, and delicious finger nibbles (oo-er) during the fleeting interval.
From Dusty’s saucy songs (and amazing vocal range) through to seductress Lili La Scala’s nightingale tones contrasted with Coco Malone’s velvety voice as well as Vicky Butterfly’s modern take on burlesque, you’d be hard-pushed to pick a favourite moment (although Send In The Clowns gets me every time…), making this the ideal date night – erring on the erotic side, but with innuendo aplenty lending a quintessentially British ‘ooh matron’ style charm.
The champagne flows as freely as the unfolding frolics. Each performer is supremely talented in their own right, although I was especially mesmerised by the delicious musculature of a certain semi-clad balancing act… Special mention, too, must go to the fabulously talented musicians who provide the live backdrop non-stop for all the aforementioned debauchery.
Tickets are limited to just 60 guests per show, and the next – and sadly last! – performance of Cabaret at Scarfes Bar is this Sunday 14th December, so do check out this sumptuous soirée before it’s gone FOREVER (although fingers crossed it returns for another run next year). Tickets are priced at £30 per person and can be booked by calling 020 7781 8888 or at scarfesbar.
