Do it like a dude in Grenson brogues…

Working in menswear, I’ve been accidentally emulating men’s trends for the last couple of seasons (and it has had absolutely nothing to do with coming into work in yesterday’s clothes with only a sample cupboard full of lumberjack shirts and over sized tees to cover this fact – NOTHING I TELL YOU).

Now I’ve never been a tomboy, but when you see some of the monstrosities roaming around the fashion world, you can understand why I’d shun a pair of sequin baby pink platforms (vomits into man bag) for a pair of brogues and an over sized shirt.

The perks are… it’s bloody great not to look like a Topshop clone (seriously, Dress Snap is NOT my best game), and I once dated a boy who was CRAZY about girls in Fred Perry. That worked out well (It didn’t).

Granted you HAVE to mix it up and keep a girly edge to it (being asked at our last work do if I had a PARTNER and if THEY would be attending by my BuyingDirector was not a highlight moment of my fashion career) but get it right and it can be tres cute.

I’ve been championing Vans on girls for years (the plimsoll, not actually wearing a white van. I’m not THAT weird. Yet.)  and Alexa Chung herself  is the face of Superga plimmies which are also super-cute and we’ve been selling on ASOS menswear for years (tsk tsk, ladieswear *rolls eyes* keep up, keep up…)

So  I am (literally) stamping around in excitement over the news that Grenson are launching a women’s range

Grenson womenswear

The traditional brogues I will be girling RIGHT up with ankle socks and girly dresses, but I’m also in LOVE with the suede Chelsea boots and NEED the desert boots in every one of those gorgeous earthy colours.  These beauts may set you back a bob or two, but traditionally made in good old Northampton (by a man with a white moustache and a leather apron, I’m SURE of it) using iconic men’s shapes they’ve been producing since 1866 – but slimmed down shapes for a lay-deeeeeeee’s foot – these are true items of beauty, and available from the end of August *starts queuing now*

So then, Mademoiselles Cole/ Price/ Perry – you can keep on teetering  in your studded YSLs and glittery Loubies, this A/W’11 I’ll mostly be Romper Stomping in my triple-sold brogue boots. And I’ll be as happy as a pig in shit.

Grenson women’s collection will be available from the End August
