What’s big in our box // Daft Punk ft. Pharrell Williams – Get Lucky

We’d forgotten how much we a) like Daft Punk and b) fancy Pharrell Williams. Remember his saucepot vocals on N.E.R.D.’s She Wants To Move? Yes. Yes, we DO want to move. On you.

ANYWAY. Daft Punk are BIG helmet-wearing teases, and following all the Canadian radio leaks and stylish Saint Laurent-styled promo shots, the track is finally out in its entirety. And obviously we’re hooked.

If I was the sort of person to use cheesy lines like ‘this is the soundtrack to your summer’ without vomming into my handbag, then I’d definitely whore out that phrase here. It really is sunshine in sound format.

Pharrell is on form with his falsetto vocals dripping like THE SEX over funky 70s style guitar grooves. If the riffs sound a lot like Nile Rodgers, well, that’s cos it IS the man himself. Cleverly, the track sounds at once retro and fresh, without it going all sorts of Jive Bunny wrong.

It’s almost like the 2010 TRON soundtrack never happened, and for that we are thankful.

Watch Pharrell talk about the collaboration with ‘the robots’. Is he on drugs? Is he taking the piss? Is it all scripted? That we do not know. Take a look-see for yourselves:

Get Lucky is out now. Daft Punk’s new album Random Access Memories is released on 20th May.
