BAFTA Fashion: we rate the red carpet looks. And slate some of them, too.

Don’t you just love a good red carpet frock parade? We do, and the BAFTAs are one of our faves.  Here we have mercilessly picked our frock loves and loathes and packaged them all up in one big, shiny bow (not unlike Gemma Arterton’s frock).  Let us know what you think; were we too harsh?

Emma Stone in Lanvin

We love Emma’s choice of red, and the style itself (she wears Lanvin much better than fellow young Hollywood blonde Blake Lively) but her old-fashioned hairdo let’s her down here; we’d have rather seen something akin to her elegant updo at the Golden Globes.

Our rating: 8/10

Julianne Moore in Tom Ford

Lovely colour, gorgeous dramatic make-up and hair, but all together it’s not quite working for us.  Good effort, just not great.

Our Rating: 6/10

Amy Adams in Elie Saab

Whilst we recognise sparkling nudes may have been done to death on the red carpet, there’s a reason for it. They work. We love the classic shape of Amy’s gown, and the peachy colour compliments her fair skin down to a t.

Our rating: 9/10

Jessica Alba in Atelier Versace

Fab colour for Ms. Alba, and nice to see a bit of bright blue on the red carpet. However, the shape is boring, the hair is rubbish and it’s all just a bit ‘meh’. Must try harder, Jess.

Our rating: 5/10

Bonnie Wright in Clements Ribeiro

Oh dear. Nice dress and everything, but more befitting of someone 20 years older. Bonnie is a cutie, and should be having more fun dressing up for the red carpet. Perhaps she should take a cue from Emma Stone?

Our rating: 4/10

Rosamund Pike in Alexander McQueen

It wouldn’t be the first time we’ve spotted this McQueen frock on the red carpet, but Rosamund wears it well. We like the loose, natural hair do and the simple bronze accessories. Overall it’s good, but not exactly a ‘red-carpet wow’.

Our rating: 7/10

Emma Watson in Valentino Couture

Gorgeous, just gorgeous. Emma even manages to make her elfin crop look glam, which is quite the fashion feat. All around a perfect red carpet look; the girl done good.

Our rating: 9/10

Gemma Arterton in Yves Saint Laurent

Close, but no cigar. The dress is cute, but somehow it makes Gemma look like a nicely-wrapped walking Crimbo pressie. We don’t blame her, though; we don’t think anyone can really pull this one off well. Loving the lippy, however, and she looks English-rose beautiful as always.

Our rating: 6/10

Hailee Steinfeld in Miu Miu

A very grown-up choice for a very young lady. We’re not feeling this on Hailee, however we’d have loved to see it on someone a bit older. We reckon Hailee should take a leaf out of pal Elle Fanning’s book, and go for some fun frocks rather than ankle-length skirts.
