David Bowie is... exhibition at the V&A

Blow Out (and about) // David Bowie is… at the V&A (well, his costumes are, anyways)

What: David Bowie is… exhibition
When: 23rd March – 28th July 2013
Where: The Victoria and Albert Museum, Cromwell Road, London SW7 2RL
Getting there: The V&A is a five minute walk from South Kensington tube (on the Piccadilly, Circle and District Line)

It’s no secret that whenever there’s a fancy dress party we automatically see if there’s anyway we can shoehorn a Ziggy Stardust outfit into the theme, as we’ve always fancied drawing lary lightening flashes across our faces and donning a spangly jumpsuit, but it never seems appropraite for work or doing the weekly shop, say.

So we were a leetle bit excited to learn that The Victoria and Albert Museum has been given unprecented access to the David Bowie Archive to curate what will be his first international retrospective.

The ‘David Bowie is’ (a legend? Fit?) exhibition (sponsored by Gucci) will feature more than 300 objects including handwritten lyrics, original costumes and set designs alongside the  superstar’s own instruments as the V&A explore Bowie as a musical innovator and cultural icon.

More than 60 stage costumes will be on display, including original Ziggy Stardust bodysuits from 1972 and outfits designed for his Aladdin Sane and Thin White Duke characters.

Other exhibits include the Union Jack coat designed by Bowie and Alexander McQueen for the Earthling album cover in 1997.

Works by such photographers as Herb Ritts, Helmut Lang, Brian Duffy and Terry O’Neill will also feature. WE CAN’T BLOODY WAIT. See you there!

We’ll be the ones in full Ziggy Stardust attire. FINALLY! AN EXCUSE TO WEAR IT!
