Blow Out (and about) // MEATliquor: Does meat. And liquor.

An American revolution is happening in London.

Later this month Mishkin’s will open in Covent Garden with a Jewish-American menu, Spuntino’s New York-inspired décor and sliders have become a firm Soho favourite, and last week, MEATliquor, the latest venture from culinary Yankophile Yianni Papoutsis (he of the infamous Meatwagon) brought a heady combination of downtown dive-bar, and old-school American diner to central London.

All the old Meatwagon favourites including their incredible cheeseburger – complete with pickles, proper American cheese and minced-on-the-day 28-day-aged chuck steak beef, the legendary Dead Hippy – a tribute to the Big Mac with two mustard-fried beef patties, lettuce, pickles and special sauce, are on the menu, along with an extended range of burgers, sandwiches and sides thanks to the bonus of a non-wagon kitchen.

The hot sauce slathered buffalo chicken burger, a classic Philly cheese-steak, and meltingly-soft pulled-pork sliders are definite highlights, and you have not lived until you’ve slathered a deep fried pickle in MEATliquor’s filthy blue cheese sauce and inserted it swiftly into your face.

Serving food until 1am, and drinks from their sizable liquor menu (try the Donkey Punch or the Breakfast Martini), until 2am, MEATliquor promises to be a hangout haven, playing dirty juke-box tunes and serving a decadent grease-fix in a wasteland of Central London chains and tourist pubs.

Thank you Uncle Sam.
