Blow Out (and about) // Sexual Ealing at the Jazz Festival

billie-holidayEaling Jazz Festival, Walpole Park, W5

27th – 31st July 2011, £4 entrance (kids free)

As an Ealing girl, born and bred, I am familiar with the annual tradition that is the Ealing Jazz Festival. What happens is we totally forget it’s on until the Sunday when we drag our hangovers down to Walpole park and lie on a rug drinking boxes of wine and eating whatever we have managed to fleece from our parent’s kitchens whilst avoiding eye contact with all their friends who are only going to make us feel bad when they ask us what we are doing with our lives. Then there are all the people we went to school with, some of which married with kids desperate to have a pint but can’t because they have to drive their 4x4s home, the boys we fancied at school who are now a bit chubs and balding, our school teachers who we are always surprised to see are still alive. Then there is us in our biggest hangover sunnies and festival wedges which we don’t wear to actual festival for fear of mudding them up.

If you fancy a bit of jazz venture to the end of the district or central line where there are many bands playing including The Ronnie Scott Legacy Band. There is a bar and stalls with food and crafts, you can also bring our own booze and picnic.

I’ll be there in my ‘Sexual Ealing’ t-shirt, instantly regretting wearing it when the bearded lady from the library gives me disapproving looks.
