Fred Butler's Easter Bonnet Party

Blow Out (and about) // What the Butler Wore – Fred Butler’s Easter Bonnet Party

Remember Easter time at school, when you’d spend ages gluing scrunched-up bits of tissue paper onto brightly coloured cardboard, trimmed with garish ribbon to make crappy Easter bonnets?

Fred Butler's Easter Bonnet Party

Well, bonkers hat-maker and accessory designer Fred Butler is hosting a stylish, grown-up version at her Easter Bonnet Party in Sanderson’s swish courtyard garden on Tuesday 26th March, 6pm – 10pm.

And unlike when you were at school, the judging panel won’t consist of the Mayor and pervy geography teacher, oh no.

This panel will feature Vogue’s Style Editor Emma Elwick-Bates, fashion blogger Susie Lau and stylists Anna Trevelyan and Margaret Crow. Blimey!

The madcap milliner has invited top fash talent Piers Atkinson, Antipodium, Tatty Devine, Margot Bowman, Phoebe Collings-James, Phoebe English, Patternity, Keely Hunter and Princess Julia to enter creations into the comp – but budding bonnet-makers are encouraged to enter, too.

“It’s something I’ve talked about doing for a few years and it’s been a case of just finding the right place, right time, right people,” says Butler.

“I live in Kentish Town and my local pub The Pineapple have an annual Easter bonnet competition which is so hilarious it’s always inspired me to organise my own.

“The first time I went, I casually thought I that being a milliner (of sorts) I didn’t need to worry, but I soon realised the competition is serious! There was a dinosaur with eyes that lit up and an ocean liner with cogs that turned and smoke coming out of the chimney.”

The winner will be awarded a night’s stay plus a Mad Hatters Tea for two at the Sanderson  – and all bonnets will be auctioned off on eBay post party, with proceeds going to Kids Company.

The event will include a DJ set from a special surprise guest (oooh!) and a set from Fred Butler herself.

To enter a bonnet into the competition, submit pics of your creation to reece@purplepr.com with a few deets about the design and inspiration. G’luck!
