Beautifully tailored, quietly maximalist and modest to a fault; Phoebe Philo preludes her Autumn Winter 2013 agenda for Céline with what can only be described as a sartorial FASH-BOMB.
A new puritan inspired look that’s painfully modern, severe but louche. Really there are NO WORDS (well, I have a few) Amish? Clergical? Straight-edged?
The Céline Pre-Fall collection hit a balance of oversized (goat hair coats, extreme leather peplums) and wide, cropped proportions (sleeves hacked of at the elbow), which framed handsome high necks and razor sharp knife pleats.
If accessories are the modern money spinners and the most homaged high street pieces, Céline responded with HUGE brass belt buckles, straw hats and steely-looking brogues. Expect brass topped mono wedges and giant buckles washing over Fashion Week come February.
My favourite look? Slouchy tailored trousers and a starched white shirt, under a sleeveless deep-v shift and delicate talisman-like pendant.
My favourite model? Maria Loks. Her elegantly butchered bob complimented the buttoned-up styling beautifully and gave me a great new year hair inspiration – more wearable now than a monster brass buckle, but none less desirable.
