Bit of an ironic one this. Kate Bosworth spends most of Blue Crush in a bikini. Does that qualify as an outfit-build? You decide. The point is she is our cute then-symbol for surf style.
It’s that (‘scuse the gag word) lifestyle trend. The health, the sunshine, the attitude and freedom associated with catching waves and looking incredible in a tiny blue two-piece that inspires.
Admittedly it’s a hard one to emulate on the South Bank, where wearing Hot Tuna, streaky Malibu lotion and a black cord necklace won’t necessarily put you up there with the Hawaii North Shore babes.
L-R Marni, Carven, Jonathan Saunders Resort 2013
Not ones to be perturbed by practicality (or actually knowing much about surf sub-culture at all) the Resort 2013 collections were full of surf-inspired looks for us to emulate. Marni gave us slim, printed board shorts, Carven played with reflective shades and prints. Jonathan Saunders showed silk printed shorts and bright clashing cover-ups (did someone say Bermuda’s?)
So now the sun’s out (for as long as it takes a wave to break…) swiftly take your chance to clash colours, prints and easy sporty shapes, big-surf style.
