Rain doesn’t stop play // Eight great wet weather songs from the 1990s

It’s raining! Did you notice? Even Noah would have got pissed off with this amount of rain. So we at Le Blow have decided to put together a selection of wet weather related songs for your listening pleasure.

Note: there will be NO Bitty McClean It Keeps Rainin’ (Tears From My Eyes), cos that was a shit song.

Enjoy our wet weather playlist designed to accompany those OMG-when-will-it-EVER-stop-pissing-buckets rainy days…

Garbage – I’m Only Happy When It Rains (1995)

Don’t know about you, but I bloody love this song. I often sing it in the shower. I might even pretend I’m in the music video. There’s something about booming “pooouuurrrrrr your misery down” whilst lathering up with Palmolive amidst the excellent acoustic qualities your bathroom affords that’s quite sensational.

Prince and  The New Power Generation – Thunder (1992)

Well, y’all know I enjoy a 90s piano riff as much as the next velveteen clad tiny little man, and for me it’s all about 1:53; never mind all the yelps of “Thunder!” and racing guitar chords.
Fact: Prince is the second cousin of the chap who plays Cat in Red Dwarf.

Madonna – Rain (1993)

This was when Madonna was going through her Alisha’s Attic phase. The video was made by the producers of The Apprentice; they have a knack of making everyone’s eyes look really, really blue in The Boardroom, and did a great job on Madge here. Funny how Madonna looks older in this video than she does now.
Fact: I remember buying this single on cassette in Woolworths #RIP Woolworths

Zoe – Sunshine on a Rainy Day (1991)

Fucking love this one, too. Who knew I had such a penchant for wet weather related tunes? Whatever happened to Zoe, anyway?
Fact: You could pretty much plonk Zoe and her outfit into 2012 and her outfit and general 90s style would look, like, totally current.

Blue Pearl – Naked in the Rain (1990)

CHOOOOOOON! That is all. Maybe ignore the video. It’s a bit crap.
Fact: this video cost £3.97 to make.

Berri – Sunshine After The Rain (1994)

YESSSSSS BERRI! Berri (real name ‘Rebecca’. Sure), pranced around in a bra and striped tights for this vid. And then dressed up as a rainbow coloured fairy. She was NOT on drugs. The star of the video is of course the too-cute pooch.
Fact: Donna Summer’s I Feel Love is sampled fairly obviously. But I thought I should mention it, anyway.

B*Witched – Blame It on the Weatherman (1999)

Oh god *gulps* Should I even admit this? But… this song is one of my guilty pleasures. Quite like wailing along to this whilst wearing double denim. WHAT?
Fact: the puppy was not harmed in the making of this video; he arrived on set after being drawn to the high pitch frequency of Edele’s vocals.

East 17 – Let It Rain (1995)

“Outside it’s raining but inside it’s WET”. Anyone who thinks Eminem was the first white rapper, clearly hasn’t seen Tony Mortimer in action.
Fact: Brian Harvey once ran HIMSELF over! Ha! These made-up facts are getting silly now, right?
